When we came across Chris Romano and Sire Press using Permaset Aqua to print on posters, cardboards and other paper substrates, we knew we should check them out to see what they are up to. Working out of a boutique studio in north eastern Philadelphia, Sire Press is a collective of artists specializing in short run CD & DVD duplication with beautiful custom packaging and design options – some print shots below.
On what they print on: ‘We primarily use Permaset for stock such as corrugated cardboard boxes,
100% PCW recycled papers, french brand paper, and other types of chipboards. We’ve used Permaset to make various CD packaging, posters, and business cards.’
On why Permaset Aqua: The three big selling points for us are – The quality of the ink, it’s ease of use for screen printing on papers, and Permaset’s eco-friendly content
On how to cure Permaset Aqua when printing on paper: Most of the time we run all of our prints through a conveyor dryer. This is because we are both impatient and we do not have room in our print shop for some of the volumes of prints that we do.
For the conveyor dryer we use a vastex db-30. I don’t know the actual temperature. it’s the very basic dryer that vastex offers and we
just purchased it as a starter convey dryer for our shirts a few years ago. We have since upgraded and now we only use it for our flat/paper
stock drying. it does not need a long time to dry. I just printed 60 posters yesterday and it literally goes through the dryer in 10 seconds
and it’s dry enough to print the next color.
PRINTER’S TIP: When we flash cure the ink using a conveyor dryer you will need to take into account that your paper (depending on fiber content) might shrink ever-so slightly.

Does it need to be heat set when printing on paper or just dried to allow for quick turn around to the next colour?
Hi Lois,
We were curious about the same thing. Here’s what Chris told us:
